The Ennead

The Ennead (uh-need) represents the nine major gods of the Egyptian pantheon. Like any family, their relationships are complicated and filled with jealously, drama, and a little bit of skull duggery. Hover over each god to learn more about them!

Atum

The Creator

Credited with creating the Earth, Atum also created Shu and Tefnut, who are treated as his children.

Shu

Air

Shu has dominion over the air, wind, and the atmosphere.

Tefnut

Moisture

Tefnut rules over moisture and rain. She supports the growing of crops.

Geb

The Earth

Geb is the god of the earth and is often depicted laying down, like the land itself.

The Sky

She represents the sky and is often depicted with stars on her body.

Set

Chaos

Seth rules over chaos, the desert, storms, and violence. He was feared by some and worshipped by others.

Osiris

Afterlife

Osiris was the god of the dead and fertility. He judged the souls of the dead and decided if they were worthy of the afterlife. He also is associated with the annual flooding of the Nile.

Nephthys

Mourning

She is the goddess of mourning, funerals, and the dead. She and Isis helped guide the souls of the dead to the afterlife.

Isis

Magic

The goddess of protection, motherhood, and magic, Isis is married to Osiris and mother to Horus.
