Temple of Seti I

The Temple of Seti I

The Temple of Seti I at Abydos stands as a remarkable testament to ancient Egyptian art and religious beliefs of the New Kingdom. Built by Pharaoh Seti I and completed by his son Ramses II, this temple is unique for its L-shaped layout and exceptionally well-preserved, intricate relief carvings that retain much of their original color. Dedicated to Osiris and six other major deities, as well as a chapel honoring Seti I himself, the temple served as a significant cult center and a place for the pharaoh to assert his legitimacy through the famed Abydos King List, which meticulously records the names of 76 preceding Egyptian rulers. Located in Upper Egypt, the Temple of Seti I offers invaluable insights into the religious practices, artistic styles, and historical consciousness of one of Egypt's most prosperous periods.

Solve the Murder of Osiris

Instructions

Analyze Clues & Mark Eliminations on the Grid:

First, understand the puzzle's goal: find the single correct combination of culprit, weapon, and motive from the lists provided. Use the deduction grid as your workspace. Carefully read each clue and mark an 'X' on the grid for every combination the clue proves impossible (e.g., if a clue says "Miss Scarlett was not in the Library," put an 'X' where her row/column meets the Library column/row).

Deduce Certainties & Find the Solution:

As you mark 'X's, look for rows or columns where only one square remains empty – this must be the correct match, so mark it with an 'O' (or ✓). Immediately use this certainty: place 'X's in all other empty squares in that 'O's row and column across the grid, as no one else could use that item/location, and that person couldn't use/be anywhere else. Continue applying clues and deductions until only one complete, un-eliminated combination of culprit, weapon, and location remains – that's your solution.

You'll need a deduciton grid.

Click the button below to open your very own deduction grid. There are a few extra hieroglyphs you'll need to help you solve the case in the tabs on the left hand side of the document. Then, enter your answers in the answer key at the bottom of the page to see if you got it right!
